celebrate International Migratory Bird Day, May 8th
with a weekend of events. All of these unique events are for
both new birders and long time birding fans. We have an
entire weekend dedicated to our avian friends combined with
great hiking through the most scenic part of Ohio.

International Migratory Bird Day at Hocking Hills State Park

for you for an entire day dedicated to birds and the

9 AM – Spring Migration Bird Walk at Lake Hope State Park
– Join the naturalist on a premier hike through the Lake
Hope region. Discover birds from the ridgetops to the
lakeshore. For more information call (740) 596-3030.
9 AM - Birding Canoe Float Down the Hocking River
- Join the Hocking Hills Canoe Livery and one of our avian
naturalist for a float down the Hocking River. To make
reservations (special birding trail price of $20) and more
information call (740) 385-0523. Canoe float is
weather-dependant and requires a minimum number
of participants…so please call ahead.
1:00 PM Saturday Birders Reception at Old Man’s Cave
Visitor Center
Join with members of the Hocking Valley Birding Trail to
explore, plan future birding outings and get tips for your
next birding excursion. Many of the local birding location
hosts will be on hand to answer any questions and offer help
with your next outing. Talks and demonstrations throughout
the afternoon reception will include such programs as: “Bird
Feeding and Food Preferences”, “Hand Feeding Hummingbirds”,
“Woodpeckers of the Hocking Valley”, “Live Raptor
Photography”…and much more!!
9 PM - Owl Prowl - Hocking Hills State Park, Rock House

Meet the naturalist at the Rock House shelter to discover,
look at and listen for these nocturnal avian hunters. For

– Warblers & Wildflowers at Wahkeena Nature Preserve
Meet with preserve manager Tom Shisler to discover th
e
unique diversity of Wahkeena. From the minute you get out of
the car, this birding hotspot will not disappoint and the
colorful show of wildflowers will add to the adventure.

8:00 AM Bird Hike on the HockHocking Adena Bikeway
Join with Wayne National Forest biologist, Lynda Andrews, in
viewing birds along the Hocking River corridor. The hike
will begin at the Glen Ebon (Co. Rd. 4) intersection and
proceed north toward Nelsonville. Hiking along the river
through cliff faces, mature forest and agricultural fields
offers the possibility of viewing a variety of birds. County
Road 4 is located by turning west off of U.S. Hwy 33 at
Nelsonville Mobile Home Parts and Supplies (between
Nelsonville and The Plains). Parking is available after

8:00 AM Birding Stroll at Waterloo Wildlife Station
Join area naturalist Heike Perko for a stroll through
Waterloo wildlife area. Enjoy area warblers, woodland
passerine birds and maybe even a wild turkey. Meet at the
wildlife station just off
either
state route 278 or 356 in the Zaleski/Lake Hope
region.
